چکیده

The erroneous assumption that herbal products is generally safe for consumption, a major factor leading to the increased of herb-induced liver injury (HILI). Even though Laurus nobilis or laurel commonly used spice, safety aspect its consumption under-studied. To bridge this gap knowledge, mutagenicity, acute toxicity, and subacute toxicity LAURESH®, which standardized leaf extract were evaluated. Mutagenicity study using two S. typhimurium strains, TA100 TA98 indicated LAURESH® does not cause base substitution frameshift mutation, thus suggesting non-mutagenic. While oral on mice established LD50 at no less than 2,000 mg/kg body weight, 28-day test rat revealed NOAEL be 1,000 mg/kg/day. Furthermore, blood chemistry, urinalysis, necropsy, histopathological data from rats show adverse event could attributed indicating unlikely HILI. Taken together, findings previous clinical in combination with historic use studies conducted leaves extract, strongly suggest human consumption.
